To rejuvenate the community centre by refurbishing the kitchen, main hall corridors and reception areas of the building.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
The Wally Foster Community Centre is the largest community centre in Hackney. It is situated in the Homerton area of the borough and was built to serve the Kingsmead Estate and the surround Hackney Wick ward. The local area has gone through many changes and the Community did not receive the attention that it required. The Charity has been revitalised with the appointment of a new chairman and trustees that have worked very hard to meet the statutory requirements for Health and Safety, Security and Procedures and policies for Vulnerable Adults and children. The community centre at present does not have any funding and would require funding to once again make the Wally Foster Community Centre the heart of the local community.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The commercial kitchen will be used by community groups and as we are in the process of becoming a food bank we would like to offer cooked meals to the disadvantaged and the homeless. We would also like to offer free cooking courses to the local community on how to prepare healthy meals for your family on a budget. At present there is carpet within the community centre which is very old and no longer suitable for the activities that take place. Removing the carpet would be hygienic and taking it back to concrete which can be polished and maintained cheaply is the recommended route. The internal walls are brick work which we admire but it looks pretty dim and needs to be cleaned. The steaming process is what has been recommended by contractors. The doors, frames, columns and main reception area must be secure and offer assurance to any person attending the centre. Families attend the centre for after school assistance on key subjects (Maths, English, Sciences).
Steps to get it done:
Many areas with Hackney have benefited from support and assistance which has transformed the appearances of the local area. This is in turn had an impact on the life style of local residents. The Homerton area of Hackney in our opinion requires attention and support. The Wally Foster Community centre is strategically positioned to deliver programmes, support, advice and opportunities.
