Warm and Welcoming: Thompson Park Centre

Thompson Park Community Association By Thompson Park Community Association

Our community centre provides a warm and welcoming space for residents of the Southwick Ward. Our kitchen boiler has broken down and we can no longer keep parts of the building warm or use hot water.

Our Community Centre was built with the pennies and ha'pennies of the local people in our immediate area in 1947 and we are a well established centre which still provides a warm and welcoming space for groups and individuals to meet and reduce social isolation. On a weekly basis we host a diverse range of activities from classes, performances, shows and events for local people and from further afield. We have many built up many partnerships with organisations in Southwick such as the SARA project, SNYP and Sunderland Home Grown. We are proud of our centre and have successfully fundraised for other improvements to futureproof our building to enable us to continue to support the community we serve. As you can imagine, losing our boiler is a bit of a disaster. In the summer months we can manage but come the winter this will cause us many problems. We hope you can support this project to keep our spaces warm and welcoming and future proof this amazing community asset for years to come.

What we'll deliver:

  • Buy and install a new boiler
  • Buy and install new radiators
  • Become more energy efficient and reduce our carbon emissions

Why it's a great idea:

This project will provide a key investment in this local community asset by providing a new boiler and hot water system in our busy community space. This will enable our visitors to be warm and we will be able to provide hot water. This investment will future proof our building, enable us to continue to run a variety of weekly, monthly and one off events for a wide range of residents in Southwick and beyond. This will also ensure that we can reduce our carbon emissions by becoming more energy efficient with newer equipment correctly installed.

Steps to get it done:

  • Decide on a provider based on quotations
  • Commission installer
  • Arrange install around activities
  • Evaluation energy usage
