The Playground is transforming to become a 150 seater public theatre. We will present international theatre , classical music concerts and film and a combination thereof. We believe in allowing artists the freedom to create their visions and to find that unique voice within them. When one looks at a Van Gogh painting or listens to a late Beethoven quartet their indelible hand is present. We also want to hear from people, not just theatre artists, within our local community and beyond, who would like to tell their story.

What we'll deliver:

  • Film screen and projector
  • Lights & rig
  • New floor
  • Sound

Why it's a great idea:

We have recently opened the front of house to include a cafe/bar and already it is becoming a community hub. People are becoming aware that we are creating a public theatre and we are receiving so many questions about our opening dates, what is the programme etc. Our visitors book is already full of requests for further information and we will create a much needed boost to the cultural life of this area.

Steps to get it done:

  • Opening Night
  • Announcement of First Season
  • Community Night to introduce locals to our work
  • Film Projector and Screen
  • Lighting rig and sound
  • New floor
  • Rostra for seating

The Playground is committed to accessibility and affordable ticket pricing and to those within our community and beyond who have a story to tell but currently lack a voice in theatre. Creating opportunities is at the core of what we do and will be reflected in our programming choices, casting, and creative appointments. Simply, we believe that passionate, engaged, and exceptional theatre should be affordable and accessible to all. We are relying on the support of our local community to deliver The Playground Theatre.
