Plas Dol y Moch
LEARNING THROUGH ADVENTURE SINCE 1966
We need your help.. we've a mountain to climb to raise £250,000.
Our challenge
The population of young people in our city is rising. Coventry schools have over the last few years had to grow to accommodate this rise and we are unable currently to accommodate the increased numbers. We want all young people to have the opportunity to come on courses at the centre. So, we need your help to increase the number of places we can provide.
To do this, we need to make the centre bigger, this will cost £750,000.
The good news is that we've secured £500,000, but we need to raise the balance of £250,000.
We need to build a new Kitchen and dining room which will allow us then to renovate the existing space to have more beds, showering facilities and kit drying rooms to cope with increased numbers. We also need to purchase additional technical kit such as canoes, helmets, buoyancy aids & boots to use with the additional children.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Plas Dol y Moch outdoor education centre, celebrates 50 years of providing high quality residential outdoor education courses to Coventry’s schools, pupils and communities.
The courses are great fun and combine adventure with learning.
Since 1966, over 100,000 young people have been on courses which promote personal and social development and effective team-working, help young people to manage risk, become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.
We are aiming to raise at least £20,000 towards our total through crowd funding. The remaining £230,000 will be raised through a combination of grant funding applications, Coventry schools involvement in a fundraising project called 'Route to Rio', corporate sponsorship and the sale of anniversary souvenirs.
We will have a stall at the Godiva and Earlsdon festivals which will allow us to raise the awareness of this project further.
Steps to get it done:
Pupils coming to Plas Dol y MOch experience a tailor made program which may include, canoeing, kayaking, mountain walks, gorge walking, climbing & abseiling, mountain biking, orienteering and mining. We deliver GCSE and A'level fieldwork courses too. These courses are all delivered using rivers, mountains and trails through out Snowdonia's National Park. The expansion will mean more pupils can come on these courses.
Plas Dol y Moch is and should remain a right of passage for all of Coventry's children. We want to set it up for the next generation and its growing population. We need your help to do that. Any donation, however small, is appreciated.
We would love to hear directly from corporate sponsors who may be able to offer in-kind support if unable to offer a monetary contribution.
