To develop and reopen a badly neglected 5 acre plot of land as a community garden with a Welsh Mythological theme.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We are a group of volunteers working together to develop a stunning but badly neglected 5 acre plot of land for use as a much needed community garden offering the following: Free pick your own fruit and veg to those who need it most along with nutrition and fresh cooking classes Welsh mythology theme to engage children and help them connect with nature Arts and crafts (willow creations, dragon and fairy making, art) Outdoor natural play area Community barbecue area to bring the community together Willow and Hazel coppice Protection and preservation of wildlife River play Volunteering and employability opportunities Natural therapies and classes in making natural soaps Hobbit style woodland cafe (vegetarian) Many of our volunteers have autism and are absolutely thriving in this environment, slowly becoming independent, gaining a love of the job and developing communication skills that will help them long term.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We have a small but dedicated team of volunteers that have come together to run this project and it has become a labour of love, helping us all to grow through a re connection with nature, even the rain doesn't stop us. Although we have set ourselves up as a non profit company ltd by guarantee we are run by volunteers with no paid staff and managed by a core management group consisting of local people so it really is a community led initiative. This environment just seems to help people to open up and to connect with others and with nature and we know that the implications for that can spread far and wide helping those who are isolated, struggling to buy food, suffering from physical or mental illness, those with learning difficulties. The intergenerational aspect will also carry benefits far and wide as the older generation teach us younger ones about the garden, about planting and the benefits of each plant, making friends themselves and gaining a real sense of achievement.
