Launching a new friendship and lunch club giving socially isolated people the chance to make new friends, reconnect with old friends and rediscover lost confidence. Guaranteed good food and company.
Many people feel more lonely in the wake of COVID-19 and many have lost their confidence or remain worried about leaving the house. This new project will offer the chance to socialise, make friends, have fun and enjoy a delicious two course lunch in a purpose built warm and inviting venue. Our project will encourage and bring together socially isolated members of the community, who may otherwise have little or limited contact with the outside world. Free return door to door transport will be available within 3 miles of the venue, to help reduce any initial anxiety or barriers to making that first move back into being an active member of the local community.

Why it's a great idea:
The pandemic and its repeated lockdowns have created an ensuing pandemic of loneliness, which is having a serious impact on both physical and mental health and wellbeing. Social isolation increases the risks of a range of health conditions including cognitive decline, frailty, high blood pressure and depression. This project will help people to reduce their isolation, depression and lack of confidence that living in a rural setting can bring. We will create a safe and caring environment where everyone can relax, socialise and have fun. There will also be a deliciously balanced, nutritious meal in a family style setting, encouraging conversation and a sense of belonging. The project is staffed by care professionals who are able to not only deliver a safe and caring service, but also recognise any gaps in support that attendees may have. We can signpost or help them to connect with other support groups.
Steps to get it done:
Open on Mondays and Thursdays, this project gives the opportunity for up to 30 socially isolated or vulnerable people to come together for a nutritious hot meal and company in a warm and welcoming environment. Having the benefit of professional staff who are connected to the local social care framework, the project will be able to identify any further care needs and refer people as appropriate.

VolunteerFor the past 10 years, the Kyrebrook Day Centre has been tackling loneliness and isolation amongst the elderly population of Tenbury Wells and the surrounding area. The centre offers a safe and caring environment where everyone can relax, socialise and have fun. In the last ten years, it has helped over 150 people to remain active members of their community, build friendships and confidence, and keep mentally and physically strong. This in turn enables people to remain independent in their own home for as long as possible, as well as providing much-needed respite for families and carers.
From crafts to quizzes, board games to bingo, music and movement, the centre offers a large selection of activities and entertainment; tailored to meet the needs of those they care for, these are designed to improve well-being, combat isolation and bring laughter and joy. There is also a delicious two course lunch.
The centre is currently open 3 full days per week offering full support and care to people living with life limiting conditions and loneliness.
The new friendship and lunch club would run twice a week, bringing the Kyrebrook caring experience to a new and wider audience who have fewer physical care needs, but are just as in need of fun and friendship.
