The Garage space is a large concrete building at the back of We Are 336 Brixton Road that we intend to convert to a performance and workshop space for local children, young people and families to use.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Brixton Inclusive is seeking to create a viable community Arts space to secure our future and that of the arts provision we deliver. The Garage is perfectly built and suitable for conversion into a perfect Black Box space for performance and rehearsals, it is also well situated between two of Brixton's most iconic housing estates, Stockwell Park and Angel Town with easy access for the local communities of Brixton, Lambeth and the wider surrounding Boroughs We believe that the local communities who suffer from high levels of unemployment, poverty and social deprivation as well as a severe gun and knife crime problem amongst the young deserve to have their own safe spaces and places. Brixton Inclusive is a Lambeth based Inclusive Arts Charity, who run regular Interdisciplinary Art projects for 5 – 25+ year olds, from Diverse, Black and other minority groups in; drama, dance, music, spoken word and performance Arts which emanate from the diverse cultural communities of Lambeth.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Brixton is currently being extensively regenerated; however, many of these development projects may well be isolating to the under-privileged communities, alienating them even further. Brixton Inclusive is committed to robustly countering this, by providing high quality arts-based interventions, activities and opportunities for those that are excluded or disenfranchised. Over the coming months progressing in 2017, Brixton Inclusive will aim to renovate and utilise the block Garage space area at the back of the building for the benefit and enrichment of the local community, young people, children and parents. Having to hire rehearsal spaces is always a problematic scenario, the spaces may be booked out and the costs are always prohibitive to our small charity. For our children and young people to have their own workshop space would free up financial resources within our company and create continuity and sustainability for the company and the activities we provide.
Steps to get it done:
Brixton Inclusive have become well known amongst our local communities for their inclusive practice. Our classes increase health and physical fitness, celebrating the cultures of our vibrant diverse client base, improving their self belief, self-esteem. All this helps keeping them away from the risks associated with youth criminality and violent behaviour. Our activities such as Drama also to increase emotional resilience particularly dealing with stress associated with adolescents, School and family relationships especially surrounding image. Attending the BIACA academy once a week will enable the children and young people to feel more positive about being part of a positive and vibrant arts group, feeling better about themselves and their particular area within the borough of Lambeth. Brixton Inclusive, believe that attending our after School arts provision will Develop better social skills and independence and life skills with a view towards life progressions.
