Blaen-Y-Maes Delivery stage

£10
pledged of £1,591

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Thanks to the generosity of the Local Councillors who have supplied the funding for the Defibrillator to be fitted on the wall of the Blaen Y Maes Drop In Centre. The aim now is to raise money to buy and install 1public access defibrillator on the outside wall of Woodford Stores Blaenymaes and train residents of the area in the use CPR and defibrillators. Cardiac arrests are one of the biggest killers in Wales, and with the early intervention of these lifesaving machines it could increase survival rate from 5% to upto 75%. Annually, 30,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (BHF, 2022), This only emphasises the importance of knowing hands-only CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Once installed they would become part of the project to make The City and County of Swansea the first defib friendly city in Britain.

What we'll deliver:

  • To buy one defibrillator complete with pads
  • To buy one cabinet and install on wall of Woodford Stores
  • To get free community training in CPR and defibrillators

Why it's a great idea:

If someone has a cardiac arrest, without early intervention with a defibrillator, life expectancy is very low. But training in the use of a defibrillator the chances of survival increases dramatically. The Zoll aedplus .defibrillator we are fundraising for is a fully automatic machine, but the free ongoing training would help the residents of Blaenymaes to have confidence to try and save a life.

Steps to get it done:

  • Helping local residents save lives by providing defibrillators
  • Providing free training in CPR and using defibrillators

We will be looking to train local residents in CPR and in the use of defibrillators. Once trained they could be used as a lifeline support team, by being the first response to a patient suffering a cardiac arrest.
